Angry Buffalo Sabres fan lists team for sale on Craigslist

The Sabres missed the playoffs for the ninth consecutive season during the now shortened 2019-20 campaign

Earlier this week, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman announced the league's regular season was over and that, once play returns, a 24-team, conferenced-based playoff will be held to determine the Stanley Cup Champion. Despite more teams than normal qualifying for the postseason, the Buffalo Sabres still were not able to secure a playoff spot.

That led one disgruntled Sabres fans to post a listing on Craigslist saying that the franchise was for sale. Here's what the fan wrote:

For Sale: NHL Hockey Franchise

Team: Buffalo Sabres

Available: ASAP

*Lost team with diehard fanbase looking for wealthy owner who actually understands hockey*

Organization on the cheap. Could be flipped. Major structural damage but few core pieces still in tact.

Non-Negotiable Terms:

-Franchise must stay in current city and is ineligible for relocation.

-Immediate family (i.e. wife) is not eligible for internal position within the organization

-Must provide "team puppy"

The Sabres finished the 2019-20 season with a 30-31-8 record, which was good for sixth place in the Atlantic Division. In addition, the team announced that general manager Jason Botterill would be returning to his post for a fourth season.

This fan wants owners Terry and Kim Pegula replaced and had plenty of reasons why.

According to The Buffalo News, the fan's name is Jill Thompson and she's been a fan of the franchise since the late 1980s.

"We were a respected and proud hockey community," she said about growing up as a Sabres fan. "That feeling was exhilarating and was a direct reflection of the owners at that time and their passion and commitment to the city and its hockey team. Fast forward to current times, and we are at a polar opposite of the spectrum.

"Ultimately the Pegulas are not only giving us a bad name in hockey, they are giving the city of Buffalo a bad name, too. This is what pushed me to find some humor in such a miserable spot and post the ad on Craigslist trying to sell the franchise to owners that care."

The Sabres last made the playoffs during the 2010-11 season when they lost in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals to the Philadelphia Flyers in seven games. The franchise hasn't won more than 35 games in the past nine seasons. It's safe to say that Thompson, and likely other Sabres supporters, are ready for a change.
